| WORKING WITH CABLE THREAD | ||

Cable is a unique thread to stitch with because of its rich properties and close resemblance to real metal thread. Kreinik Cable is a 3-ply gently twisted cord, available in gold and silver, and embellishes a design with classic elegance and refined lines.
There are many applications for Cable Thread: crazy quilting (hand and machine), crewel, cross stitch/counted thread, costume-making, doll-making (hand and machine), Hardanger, machine embroidery/couching, miniatures, needlepoint/canvas work, punch embroidery, ribbon embroidery (by hand and machine), and stump work. This thread is also ideal for creating background patterns on canvas. On fabric, it is often used for decorative stitches or outlines, as in samplers.
Working with Cable Thread is easy, but careful attention while stitching is required to lend to a pleasurable experience. Firstly and most conveniently, Cable comes on a snap-spool where both sides of the spool open and thread can easily be removed and then re-fastened securely into place for storage. To use the thread from the spool, find the side where the thread end is located and insert your thumbnail under the cap, rotating the spool while gently lifting the cap to release the thread (the cap should not pop off). To secure unused portion of thread for storage, simply snap the lid shut.
Secondly, to keep Cable intact while threading your needle, simply cut a small strip of paper and fold in half. Then, place the fold through the eye of the needle and open the two ends to insert the thread in between. Gently pull the paper through so the thread is brought with it.
Important to note, to maintain the quality of Cable when stitching, use short lengths of the thread, no more than 18 inches to avoid excessive wear on the thread as it passes through the ground fabric. Taking time to work in shorter lengths will help you have greater control and, more importantly, less knotting! And whether stitching with this thread or couching it on any ground material, to maintain Cable’s soft twist, stitch slowly and attentively.
Lastly, caring for Cable is easy. The thread is hand or machine washable and dry cleanable. Cool water is recommended, and do not use bleach. This thread can also be tumble-dried on a low setting. When ironing a finished piece containing Cable, do not iron directly on the thread; rather use a cloth, and do not use steam.
So, if you’d like to add a touch of elegance, creating a unique look in your designs, try stitching with Kreinik’s Cable thread and you will be amazed at the level of quality it will build in your finished project.
